Bolivia will have its first breast milk bank

A few days ago we told you where to donate breast milk in Spain, but in many countries there is still no such option. It is always good news to open a new bank, and in this case more because Bolivia will have its first breast milk bank soon.

And not only that, but the Ministry of Health plans to create a national network to collect breast milk. The Women's Hospital of La Paz will host the first breast milk bank to be implemented in the country, which already has the equipment for its operation.

The objective is to reduce the infant and neonatal mortality rate, in addition to promote breastfeeding during the first months of the baby's life. A multidisciplinary team will be formed that will be in charge of equipment management, installation and pasteurization of the milk voluntarily donated by the mothers.

The person in charge of the program clarified that the babies of the Neonatology room of the Women's Hospital will be the first beneficiaries with this bank:

Initially it will be for this unit, later, according to the amount of milk collected and pasteurized we will also make the distributions to other hospitals, as we will create a network of collection units in all the centers of the Infant Mother.

We have already noticed the first milk bank in Peru, and we are glad that there are still news of this type, so important for the health of babies. However, we remember that more breast milk banks are needed in the world.

We are glad that this project that has been coming back for some time in the country will finally see the light and Bolivia will soon have its first breast milk bank. Pasteurized milk from donor mothers is the best option for feeding children, especially if they are sick or high-risk children, so they will be the first to thank you.
