It's time to go to sleep and the children demand their good night story. But today it's not going to be dad and mom who read them the story, but a real astronaut ... and from space!
Astronauts from all over the world record themselves inside the International Space Station telling stories to the children of the earth in this program developed by the Global Space Education Foundation.
Inside a space station
The space awakens the interest of children since they are little. The moon and the sun help us explain the day and night when babies and, from there, the interest in the sky and its mysteries begins. The planets, spaceships, UFOs, aliens And, of course, astronauts are the object of curiosity and admiration for the little ones.
Children have the opportunity to peek into a space station full of cables and electronic devices like in the movies and inhabited by characters that float through their spaceship instead of walking on the ground as we do on earth: astronauts. But here it is about demonstrating to the kids that the tenants of the space stations are people like us. And they will prove it by saying good night with a story.
Reading and science together
The project is called Story time from Space (something like story time from space) and was created by Alvin Drew, the first NASA astronaut to read a story from space, and Patricia Tribe, former director of education from the Houston Space Center, which explains:
"Our goal was to merge reading with disciplines such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics. What better model than astronauts to draw children's attention to reading and science?"
Children can learn (in English) the stories of canine astronauts like Max travels to the space station or Rosie Revere, the girl who dreamed of being a great engineer. All astronaut videos are available on the project website.
