They try a medicine to avoid having to advance the delivery if there is preeclampsia

One of the serious problems that may appear during pregnancy is preeclampsia. So far, the method used to protect the fetus and the mother, is the pharmacological control of the tension of the pregnant woman or to advance the delivery, but this does not cease to have risks.

Currently, scientists from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (United States) are studying whether a drug that is administered to patients with heart disease could be prescribed to pregnant women with severe preeclampsia.

The goal is to find in Fab Immune Digoxin a treatment that allows delaying labor in cases of preeclampsia, saving the risks of this increase in tension and trying to keep the fetus longer together with the placenta so that it can administer the steroids that collaborate in lung development and avoid respiratory problems suffered by premature babies. It should also be verified that in addition to preventing or reversing the problems of preeclampsia, do not add new adverse effects for the pregnant woman and for the future baby.

He heads the clinical trial that is being conducted in eight states, Dr. George Saade, head of the Maternal and Child Unit of the American center. Participants will be added until the end of the year, so we will have to wait a few months to know the results, hopefully satisfactory.
