The Mediterranean diet in pregnancy would make the baby less prone to allergies and asthma

There is much talk about the great benefits of the Mediterranean diet for health and to add an additional one, according to the results of an investigation conducted by Greek researchers, the children of women who during pregnancy were fed based on a Mediterranean diet were less likely to develop asthma or allergies in the future.

According to research published in the journal Thorax, eating vegetables more than eight times a week, fish three times and include legumes in the diet improves protection. This effect could occur as a result of the large amount of antioxidants and nutrients contained in these foods. However, the researchers clarify that other studies will be necessary to demonstrate how the benefit is produced.

The study was conducted by observing 468 women and their children for a period of 6 and a half years, since they were pregnant. The children of women who had taken a Mediterranean diet turned out to be less prone to childhood asthma by 80% and developed less allergies by 45%.

The study also showed that the children of mothers who had a diet rich in red meat seemed to have a May risk of developing these problems.

The findings of this research are complemented very well with a study that my colleagues Velsid told us some time ago, in relation to the fact that feeding during pregnancy can influence the risk of the baby developing allergies.

In conclusion, following a healthy and balanced diet during pregnancy is very important and every day the findings in this regard are reinforced, so if you are pregnant to eat well and varied.
