The Catalan Federation of Breastfeeding Support Groups was born in 2002 in Barcelona. It arises from the need detected by different pro-lactation associations in Catalonia to have an entity that can develop projects of common interest that are difficult to assume separately.
After its foundation, a systematic research work is carried out to gather reliable data on the situation of breastfeeding in Catalonia, the specific needs of women who breastfeed, the quality of health care they receive and their level of Information and support.
The result of this work has been the elaboration of different projects aimed at enhancing the network work of the different associations, promoting the exchange of information, giving visibility to the social volunteer movement that develops services aimed at women who decide to breastfeed their children and offer training and advice resources. They organize breastfeeding training courses periodically.
