Soft Toys Aid: Ikea solidarity campaign

As it has been doing for five years at this time, Ikea has restarted the solidarity campaign “€ 1 is a fortune”. And the truth is that for many people who live in poor countries it is.

For each plush in the “Soft Toys” collection sold between November 1 and January 5, IKEA will donate 1 euro to support social programs developed by Save the Children and UNICEF aimed at improving the living conditions and education of children in developing countries in Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa.

As you know, Ikea is a very wide chain worldwide and thanks to the sale of so many stuffed animals they have managed to raise 16.7 million euros since the campaign began.

The interesting thing is that the money goes to specific projects. UNICEF allocates it to the “Schools for Africa” education program to create schools in Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Ethiopia and Madagascar, while Save the Children allocates it to educational projects for children in Russia and Albania and children of ethnic minorities in Bangladesh and Vietnam.

The Soft Toys collection is quite wide, with prices ranging from 0.50 cents to 17, 95 euros. Surely many of you have some at home, but it is a good opportunity to turn them into Christmas gifts.

As a novelty in the campaign, this year they have launched a music video and an interactive activity to create the largest and most supportive choir in the world.

The initiative is very commendable, and unlike some questionable campaigns that Christmas, I think initiatives like this are worth it. Agree that it gives a huge promotion to be a solidarity store and that encourages you to buy more stuffed animals. But it is necessary, and I would say mandatory, that the big companies that invoice the incalculable as Ikea are engaged in solidarity projects to help the most disadvantaged to "redecorate their lives".
