La Fe Hospital in Valencia already has a breast milk bank

It is the first of the Valencian community and the third of the peninsula, along with the bank of the Balearic Islands and the Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid. La Fe Hospital in Valencia already has a breast milk bank, which is great news for babies admitted to the hospital's neonatology service who will benefit from it.

It was necessary to open a new human milk bank in Spain, although it also remains at the tail of Europe and a great distance from countries like Finland with 25 banks or the United Meeting with 17.

In any case, it is a magnificent initiative that offers breast milk for free and under medical prescription to all hospitalized newborns who need it.

The conservation room is located in the basement of the hospital's children's pavilion. There the milk that the mothers donate in an altruistic way is collected, analyzed, processed, stored and distributed with total guarantee of quality and safety.

The priority will be premature babies with low weight and with pathologies, heart disease or immunodeficiencies whose mothers cannot feed them with their own milk.

Mothers who are breastfeeding their babies and are interested in donating their milk for newly opened milk bank of La Fe Hospital they should only pass a previous interview and an analytical one to guarantee an adequate selection process.

At the moment there is no website with information available, but soon the Ministry of Health will enable a link through its website www.san.gva.es. Meanwhile, those interested can approach the center or request information on the phone 96 386 0233.

Hopefully soon we can give the news of another new open milk bank in Spain.
