The United States proposes to suppress children's advertising of junk food

Can you imagine an advertisement for any industrial bakery product highlighting the amount of saturated fats and possible health risks? It is clear that we will not see it soon “on our screens”, but what we do it can happen in the United States is that the advertising directed to the children of junk food disappears.

It would be a revolution in children's advertising, which is aimed at children by offering a multitude of foods presented as something wonderful, but in reality they are not so much. The proposal calls for attention to be paid to advertisements that minimize ingredients that could have a negative impact on weight and health.

The truth is that if this were done with all the ads, we would practically run out of food advertising, but I don't think it's bad that the children's schedule is limited, since it has been shown that advertising has some influence on what our children eat (or want to eat).

I think that, to a large extent, children would be more willing to eat healthy foods if campaigns were made as attractive as those of goodies, pastries ...

The proposal, which has been taken to the United States Congress, was prepared by a working group formed by the Federal Trade Commission, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the United States Department of Agriculture.

Salted foods and cereals, drinks and sugary yogurts are the main ads that would be modified if this proposal goes ahead: it would be from 2016 and all children under 17 would be considered “children”.

At present, a significant percentage of the products currently marketed for children would not comply with the appropriate nutritional principles.

So that suppress advertising of junk food aimed at children or, better, that food be reformulated to make them healthier and that controls are more stringent in terms of what is sold, would be options that would help not put your health at risk.
