Resort to crowdfunding to pay for a home birth

Cristina will have her third child next July. His other two children were born in a hospital, but this time he wants to give birth in the privacy of his home, a service that does not cover Social Security or mutual insurance.

To raise the 2,300 euros it costs, has resorted to a crowdfunding or micromanagement campaign, that is, get "sponsors" who donate the money to be able to afford a home birth.

She defines herself as a "home birth activist," as she intends to raise awareness about home birth as a safe and cheaper option than giving birth in a hospital.

A hospital birth costs between 3,000 and 6,000 euros, while the fees of a professional attending a home birth can range between 1,800 and 3,000 euros. Hospital admission significantly increases costs.

So far, Cristina has managed to raise 1,000 euros of the 2,300 that will cost her home birth, most from people committed to the cause as women who have already gone through the experience of giving birth at home, associations of mothers and establishments of maternity.

As soon as his case has been announced in 20 minutes, the criticism has not been expected in the comments of the news. There are many who brand the future mother as an opportunist without seeing the intention behind her action, to raise awareness that home delivery is cheaper than in a hospital when it is a viable option.

We would like to know your point of view on the crowdfuning campaign launched by this mother to have a home birth. What do you think? Would you do it? Do you see it appropriate?
