Does something happen if I cut my newborn's nails?

From the fourth month of pregnancy the fetus's nails begin to form, so when this birth occurs, this small structure of the body is already visible, in the feet and hands. When the baby is born it has very soft nails and generally short, but many newborns already notice that even some nails protrude from the fingers.

This happens especially if the baby is born after 40 weeks. But, Should we cut these baby fingernails? Does something happen if I do? There are many myths about it, but we can be calm, nothing strange will happen to the baby.

Actually, it is not necessary to cut them, since they are so soft that they usually break and fall on their own. Although if the baby produces scratches on the face, we can use the mittens or cut those first nails.

This is especially recommended if the nails are split, they have some piquito that can harm them ... we can even help with a file to match them, cleaning well the filings.

Nothing happens to cut the baby's nails in the first days of life, the only thing that we have to take into account is that we must proceed with great care when cutting them, with special rounded scissors, without tip or small nail clippers, specific for babies.

Putting the baby on our lap or a flat surface, taking advantage of the fact that it is calm (the moment they sleep may be the most indicated) we will hold the hand tightly and cut the nail into a small semicircle. If our hands are at a pleasant temperature the baby will notice less and will not startle when you notice a very cold hand, for example.

There are babies who do not mind this operation, but in others it can be more complicated, so maybe the time you sleep or while breastfeeding, with the help of dad, are suitable for it. If the baby is restless, postpone the nail cut.

We have not talked about the toenails because they usually grow much more slowly than those on the hands, but everything we have mentioned above is useful for the lower extremities. You probably don't have to cut them in the baby's first days of life, but sooner or later the time will come.

The point is that nothing happens if the newborn's nails are cut, forget several myths that point out that it should not be done because there are consequences of the most pilgrims and, whenever you consider it necessary, cut them with great care.
