In pregnancy and lactation, eating well is the best "I love you"

I remember my pregnancies as the moments of my life in which I have taken more care of my diet. In fact, it would be convenient for some good habits to resume them more often ... Today, Thursday, May 28, National Nutrition Day is celebrated and this year we have tried to remember the importance of following a healthy diet for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Therefore, different organizations have wanted to spread a campaign that promotes the message "In pregnancy and lactation, eating well is the best I love you". The objective is to raise awareness about the importance of adopting healthy habits before and during pregnancy, for maternal and child health, as well as maintaining an adequate diet and the appropriate controls required by pregnancy.

The delegation of Social Welfare, Equality and Health promotes through its website and social networks this dissemination campaign within the program of activities to promote the health of the population.

This activity joins the national campaign organized by the Spanish Federation of Nutrition, Food and Dietary Societies (FESNAD) in collaboration with the Spanish Agency for Food Consumption, Food Safety and Nutrition (AECOSAN) and the NAOS Strategy.

The campaign informs about basic notions about maternal and child health, as well as healthy habits that help reduce the most frequent discomforts during pregnancy and about the risk of diseases in the mother and the baby. Today interesting data have been presented, such as that 55% of women change nutritional habits during pregnancy or 43% of pregnant women would have doubts about feeding at this stage.

These are data that emerge from a survey on Degree of knowledge in nutrition during pregnancy and lactation which has been performed on 401 mothers between 36 and 45 years, with children under three years.

Remember that good nutrition during pregnancy prevents problems such as anemia, obesity, diabetes, constipation ... And in the baby can prevent low birth weight, prematurity, spina bifida ...

It is not necessary to eat for two, but the energy recommendations are progressively increased from the second trimester of pregnancy until breastfeeding. Folic acid, iron, calcium, iodine ... are some of the elements that must be present in the pregnant woman's diet. Remember to follow all the nutrition tips at this stage, because eating well is the best "I love you" for your baby.
