Bad eating habits during pregnancy: sausage and pastries, at the head

On the occasion of the Nutrition Day, which was celebrated yesterday, the General Council of Dietitians and Nutritionists of Spain recommends a healthy diet for pregnant women and reminds us that we do not always do it. Specifically, it is noted that Spanish pregnant women continue to eat many sausages and pastries.

They warn that Spanish women do not care enough for their diet, they barely change their nutritional habits during pregnancy and lactation and continue to eat these little recommended foods, according to a study published in the journal "Nutrients" that collects the eating habits of About 14,000 Spanish women.

But, Why is it wrong to take sausages and pastries in pregnancy? The sausage involves risks such as toxoplasmosis or listerosis and they are also placed at the top of the food pyramid, as food to be taken occasionally.

The same goes for industrial pastries (croissants, cream-filled buns, palm trees, sobaos, cocoa buns ...): they must be occasional foods because they contain many trans fats, salt, sugar ... and favor hypertension, obesity ...

They also remind us that, if we have cravings of this type, we must try to control them and replace them with other healthier and more beneficial foods, such as those of which we speak to you often.

further the General Council of Dietitians and Nutritionists emphasizes prohibited foods during pregnancy, such as alcohol, algae (due to its high iodine content), the liver or nuts of Brazil (since taking more than six a day can cause selenium toxicity), and the Ministry of Health warns that swordfish The shark, bluefin tuna and pike can also be harmful because they contain a lot of mercury.

Self-medication, raw foods such as meat or fish, lack of hygiene in cooking, strict diets ... are harmful to the future mother and the fetus, so you have to be careful. We remind you at this point the advice for safe feeding during pregnancy.

As we saw yesterday, the date of the National Nutrition Day has been used to launch awareness campaigns to different groups to incorporate healthy eating habits and in this case pregnant women have been important recipients of these messages. Do you consider that you fall into any of bad eating habits in pregnancy?
