11 winter family walks

The arrival of the cold does not prevent us from continuing to enjoy the walks with the children. Many landscapes to discover, natural parks, lovely paths, fabulous parks ... acquire a special hue on these dates, with a visit of the snow at times, with icy waters, with fog and fog and that sun that caresses softly at this time.

A special occasion to consolidate our love for nature, for active and healthy life and learn from our environment. We are going to know paths, roads, national parks, gardens, rivers, mountains ... Not forgetting hat, scarf, coat and good shoes, these are 11 family winter walks that we recommend.

  • The San Roque Park in Santa Uxía de Ribeira, A Coruña. With about 175,000 square meters of forest and park in Galician lands, overlooking the Ría de Arousa, this park could be toured as an open-air museum, between native flora and fauna. It has an Archaeological Interpretation Center and samples of local history and ethnography from the Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age periods to the nearest past. How about looking at a castro and replica of their homes, with a dovecote, a shed, a laundry room ... or photographed next to dolmens and menhirs?
  • The Stone Monastery and its surroundings is known as one of the most beautiful excursions in Europe and so we perceive it as soon as we enter it (Nuévalos, Comarca de Calatayud, Zaragoza). We are in an excellent natural place, with its waterfalls, its caves, its Cistercian monastery, its exhibition of birds of prey (from March to the end of October), its fish farm ... By buying the entrance we can take a free tour of the Park and guided by the 12th century monastery. More information: Monasterio de Piedra Photo: Miguel Rubira García on Flickr-CC
  • The Lobos River Canyon Natural Park, located in the province of Soria and Burgos, has a spectacular relief that is considered one of the most beautiful landscapes in Spain. With many hiking trails, easy to do with the little ones, we can explore extensive forests of junipers and larice pine or contemplate their varied fauna: griffon vultures, golden eagles, hawks, roe deer, wild boar, squirrels, otters, wild cats ... From the hermitage From San Bartolomé, of Templar origin, we appreciate this unique canyon in all its splendor. Photo: jesúscm on Flickr-CC.
  • Art and Nature Roads in Salamanca. In the Sierra de Francia we find some very special itineraries to do as a family, where art and nature combine in a suggestive and unique combination. In this landscape, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, different artistic interventions have been made. The Way of Prodigies, the Settlement-Forest of Mirrors, the Way of Roots and the Way of Water, which one do you prefer? Photo: Salamanca Emotion.
  • Monfragüe National Park. We go to Extremadura lands because in this National Park furrowed by the Tagus we dive into one of the most important bird watching areas of the peninsula (black storks, vultures, vultures, imperial eagles ...). A paradise for ornithologists, but also for the whole family. There are different routes to make through the Park, surrounded by lush nature, and where we can also visit a castle, a rock of legend or a town with only one street. • The ecological path of the Tagus in Toledo. Having made this tour a cold day (with just, yes), I can only remember it with pleasure. The landscapes that look out over the Tagus on this route, also Ruta del Quijote, are spectacular and can be easily and safely traveled, for about five kilometers, surrounding the city of Toledo. The castle of San Servando appears in the distance and we see the bridges that take us to the city over the river. Photo: Eva Paris

  • The Borosa River Route, in the Natural Park of the Sierra de Cazorla, we reserve one of the most beautiful places in this area and southern Spain and in winter we will not find the influx of other times. Among the rapids of the river, the caves and caves, an old mine, suspension bridges ... it will be an unforgettable walk for the kids. Of course, you have to be fit because the first part is up. Anyway, being a long route (17 kilometers round trip), we can stop whenever we want.

  • Doñana National and Natural Park. Winter and spring are the times when the marshes of Doñana shine in all their splendor. We are located on the shores of the Atlantic, close to its encounter with the Mediterranean, covering four Andalusian provinces. Its large expanse of marshes hosts many species of water birds during winter, up to 200,000 individuals. The extensive network of existing trails allows us to enter this protected area, either by hiking or cycling. Riding a boat or riding horses are other activities that can be done in the Park. • Botanical Garden of Barcelona. 14 hectares of garden to visit as a family and also with an interesting offer of games and exercises based on the observation and manipulation of specimens from the collections of the Museum of Natural Sciences and the vegetal species of the Garden. In it we will observe the great similarity of the Californian, Chilean, South African and Australian landscapes with those of the Mediterranean basin. Admission is free for children, with discounts for families and free the first Sunday of the month, all day and every Sunday of the year from 3 pm. --V on Flickr-CC.
  • S'Albufera de Mallorca. To the north of the island of Mallorca, this walk with children is ideal on sunny winter days, when the heat does not squeeze and we can spend a morning walking quietly on their paths, stopping at their observatories, delighting in the song of the birds or having lunch in the picnic area ... The visit is free and can be done on foot or by bike (with certain bounded paths) but inside you have to go through the visitor center to give us a permit. Photo: Aina Vidal on Flickr-CC.
  • Garajonay National Park. We jump to the Canary Islands where the weather is mild practically all year. And in La Gomera we can travel in time, to another time, that of dinosaurs that seems that they could assault us at any time from this World Heritage site. Here the laurel is perfectly preserved, a humid forest of varied species of evergreen that in the Tertiary covered practically all of Europe. A magical effect increased by the frequent fogs that surround the landscape. The park, which owes its name to the legend of impossible love between Gara, Princess Gomera and Jonay de Tenerife, has a wide network of equipment and services, viewpoints, recreational areas, trails ...
