The sucking reflex and milk production

Newborns have the so-called sucking reflex, it is an innate reflex that allows the baby to feed, comfort and calm him. For this reflex, the fingers, the bottle, the nipple, everything serves to develop an activity that is natural in its growth. This suction begins inside the uterus and lasts at least until the first year of age.

Sucking reflex It allows to stimulate the nipple, these stimuli send the order to the brain to produce prolactin, this hormone is very important, since it helps your chest to continue functioning long after the first impulse of the rise of milk. This is thanks to the nipple suction, but it is also very important that the chest is emptied frequently and completely to be able to continue generating more milk.

The amount of milk will depend on how many times you breastfeed your child and the amount of emptying that is done, of course it also influences the food and tranquility you have. The baby sucks in a very peculiar way, his jaw and tongue work in a coordinated way in the chest. When the baby grabs the nipple, his lips protrude outward by drawing a circle around the breast, the baby's mouth creates a vacuum by pressing the nipple against the palate with his tongue. In this way flattens the areola and manages to suck the milk.

According to specialists, sometimes problems arise, these can be caused by the interference of pacifiers and bottles. These problems consist in the fact that the baby does not know how to breastfeed and in the face of his despair he begins to bite the nipple and becomes nervous. The consequence is that the baby is dissatisfied and the mother is frustrated that she cannot feed him properly.

The sucking capacity of a baby can vary depending on the state of the nipples and the position that you have when breastfeeding, for this reason it is highly recommended to suck properly and that the nipples are perfectly cared for.

Thanks to the baby's sucking reflex, the entire chain works properly so that the mother produces the necessary amount of milk and the baby develops properly.
