Do pediatricians favor artificial milk manufacturers?

A news that we read in the Ideal digital publication leaves us quite surprised, they suggest that different groups that support breastfeeding accuse pediatricians of a fact that could be classified as immoral. Affirm that pediatricians favor artificial milk manufacturers and in addition, pediatricians discourage breastfeeding.

We must start from the recommendations provided by the World Health Organization where they indicate that breastfeeding should be exclusive until 6 months and then supplemented with different foods for at least two years. We assume that this recommendation is taken into account by pediatricians and that except in exceptional cases, they will follow the pattern of these recommendations.

Such an accusation must be made under really solid evidence, nor should a whole group of professionals be judged for the wrongdoing of a few in search of economic benefit. In any case, it is necessary to persecute pediatricians who dishonor the profession with advice that is not beneficial for children.

Logically, we might well think that companies that produce artificial milk for infants have a real interest in reducing breastfeeding so that they can see their sales and income grow.

Suspicious is the situation in the Palace of Congresses of Granada, where more than a thousand pediatricians met on the occasion of the call made by the Spanish Society of Outpatient Pediatrics and Primary Care (SEPEAP), the association for breastfeeding support Mamilactancia, which in principle had a stand assigned by the organizers, had to evict him for suspicious reasons, as the congress was headed by a powerful company in terms of the administration of formula milks, the Nestlé brand. This did not prevent Mamilactancia from setting up its own stand in the street.

A fact that Ideal provides us with is quite revealing, "For every mother who decides to breastfeed her son, artificial milk manufacturers stop counting cash and money, between 50 and 100 euros per month on average." Behind the wrongdoing of a few pediatricians is, in our view, the group of formula-producing companies, but who has the last word are moms, they decide whether or not to provide breastfeeding to their little ones.

A good recommendation is, before the advice of a pediatrician to administer formula milk to the baby, to resort to a second opinion to verify that this is really necessary. What a shame, you can't trust health professionals anymore.
