Cots in Cuba, a luxury item

I have seen in an Cuban publication an article that called my attention a lot about how difficult it is in Cuba for a baby to have an article as necessary as a crib to sleep in.

It left me freezing because sometimes we don't stop to think about the things we have that we consider essential for the care of our children, while in other parts of the world they are considered true luxuries.

In Cuba, an essential article for the baby as it is a crib has more qualities of a precious object than of sleeping furniture.

As commented in the article, getting a crib for the newborn has become a via crucis in Cuba.

They are only sold in some stores at a dollar price, with infarct figures impossible to pay for future Cuban parents.

So the whole family takes care of the task of finding, repairing or manufacturing a crib for the baby to arrive.

One option is to get a crib that has already passed through several generations, fix the limp leg and give it a good face wash so that it is more or less passable for the new family member.

Another is to go to a carpenter to make one. Although there are very few, because the trade is in disuse. In addition, if you do not have a commercial license, prices become more expensive when you risk fines and the closing of the premises.

Not to mention that the wood to make the cradle must be recycled from disused doors, windows, beams or furniture, since the state controls all the wood in the country and does not sell it to individuals.

You will see that it is indeed an odyssey to get a baby to have something as simple as a crib.

The journalist adds that if you are lucky enough to have it, then the complicated thing is to find a place to place it and it is even harder to feed the newborn.

I don't get into that, but I don't take my reason away either.
