Dolls to explain cancer

When a person has to explain to your child that you have cancer, there is a huge problem. Knowing whether or not you will understand it, what perception you will have of the disease, to what extent you will be aware of the seriousness of the matter and how you will see the physical changes that occur in the person due to the treatments, are some of the questions we ask ourselves.

This problem was presented to Kim Goebel, a woman who had breast cancer, and did not know how to explain it to her children. To try to make them understand the changes he was going to suffer due to chemotherapy, he created the Kimmie Cares dolls, which reflect one of the most difficult physical changes to understand for children: hair loss.

These beautiful dolls can be purchased online for a small fee of $ 39.99 (equivalent to approximately 27 euros right now). Six different dolls are available, each of a different breed and with its own name. Each incorporates two different removable wigs, one with longer hair like mom before treatment, and another shorter wig with curly hair, like mom's hair when it begins to grow. He also has a scarf to cover the head of the doll, like the one the mother wears when her hair falls out completely.

Apart from that, the doll also comes with an illustrative book called "Mom and I, caring for ... each other" in which cancer-related terms are easily explained, and is focused for the whole family to read together. The book is also sold separately and in Spanish for 19.99 dollars (13 euros)

In addition, Kim set up an organization to help cancer patients, "Partners for a Cure Foundation." After his death, his sister Cris has been in charge of moving forward with the project. They have already managed to sell about 300 dolls, whose benefits are intended entirely for the foundation.
