Childbirth preparation classes, essential according to our readers

According to the votes received in the survey that I raised last week, most of our readers think they would always go to childbirth preparation classes, since they consider them essential.

Specific, 61% have chosen this option, while the next most selected possibility has been to attend classes only during the first pregnancy (30% of the votes). The other 2 options move away, by far, in number of votes, since only 7% think they would seek information from sources other than preparatory classes and 2% say they would not need any training.

I am glad to see that the first 2 options coincide with what is my idea, that training and information through some classes can help moms and dads to face the final phase of pregnancy and childbirth in a more conscious way.

In the comments we could see that some mothers said that the classes served them a lot, others not so much, at least at the time of labor.

The pity is that some said that they couldn't go because of work, or that it was their partners who could not go, which led me to explain my opinion about how important the role of the father is in childbirth preparation classes.

Bringing my thoughts back then and those of the readers in their comments, I point out these important points:

  • The classes not only serve for the moment of giving birth: you learn about yourself, about the evolution of the baby, about your communication, you are more aware of this stage and of basic issues after the birth of the baby.
  • Physically, they can help us to be fit and cope with childbirth with strength and aware of what we can do to reduce pain and facilitate delivery.
  • In Spain, attendance at the preparatory classes for the working mother is legally permitted, although unfortunately it is not so in many countries.
  • Even in countries where attendance is legal, there are female workers who, although they wish to go to classes, due to labor pressures do not have it easy. I've heard more than once that they want to avoid bad faces.
  • Unfortunately, class schedules are usually rigid and with little choice, which prevents many parents who want to go.
  • The same happens with the infrastructures of the preparation centers, which sometimes do not facilitate the attendance of parents to these classes.

Again, thank you all for participating.
