Not only can you burn in summer

Protecting children from the sun is a very important issue, as it can prevent serious diseases in adult life, especially the terrible skin cancer or melanoma. We usually associate sunbathing, only in summer situations such as going to the beach or the pool, but sometimes we forget that Children spend a lot of time outdoors and that is also giving them the sun.

This time in the sun carries a significant dose of ultraviolet radiation to children. In order to quantify it and know to what extent it could become dangerous, the Ministry of Education, together with a research group of the Department of Applied Thermodynamics have launched a project called Dorasol, whose objective is to measure the ultraviolet radiation that children receive during all the time they spend outdoors. It consists of incorporating into the clothes of a group of children, biological dosimeters that collect the amount of ultraviolet rays that affect the garments. In addition, they will also measure the amount of radiation that adults receive in order to compare it with that of children.

The objective of this essay is to be able to prepare a report "with a series of tips and behavioral guidelines to prevent the damaging effects of the sun" as indicated by the director of this project, not only in summer, but throughout year.

We will continue to pay attention to the results of this analysis that is currently collecting data, since perhaps it can provide us with important data to better protect our children.
