Almost 70 percent of children between the ages of 10 and 15 have a cell phone, and more girls than boys

The National Statistics Institute (INE) finishes publishing its Survey on Equipment and Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Homes of 2018. It reflects a slight increase compared to the results of the previous year in the use of computers and Internet at home and an advance in the age at which children have their first mobile: 26.2% of 10-year-olds have a telephone, compared to 25% in 2017.

A trend that increases every year and shows that we do not always follow the instructions of education experts who recommend waiting at least for our children to turn 12 to buy their first mobile: 69.8% of those under 12 years old It has a telephone.

In addition, 79.5% of households with at least one member aged 16 to 74 have a computer (or tablet) at home (1.1 points more than last year).

In Babies and over 12 years, three out of four children have a mobile

Girls use ICT more

The proportion of ICT use in the population aged 10 to 15 is, in general, very high. Computer use is widespread (91.3% of children have it) and even more Internet use (92.8%). It is the girls who use the new technologies to a greater extent, and at an older age, the greater use of ICT, especially after the age of 13.

That is the conclusion drawn from the INE survey: on average, 71.6% of girls between 10 and 15 years old have a mobile phone, compared to 68.2% of boys.

69.8% of the population aged 10 to 15 have a mobile phone In Babies and more When to buy the first mobile to children: clues to get it right and teach them to use it well

At 15 years almost all children have mobile

There is also a slight advance in the use of telephones: while in the same survey of 2017 25% of children had it with 10 years, in 2018 they already own 26.2% and with 12 years, 75, 1% (no variation with the previous data, 75%).

In the rest of the ages, slight variations are also perceived. Note that at 11 and 14 years of age there is a downward trend (something that was already perceived in the previous survey): at 11 years old, 41.1% have a telephone (in 2017, 45.2%); at 13, 86.2% (83.2 in 2017) and at 14, 91.2% (92.8 in 2017).

But at 15 years almost all of the young people have mobile (94.8%, compared to 94% in 2017), computer (95% and 92.5% in 2017) and Internet access (98.7% and 99.8 in 2017).

Some slight oscillations that continue to reaffirm the fact that the Almost all of our minor children surf the Internet.
