They ask for the specialty in child psychiatry

Most parents do not know, but did you know that in Spain there is no specialty in child psychiatry?

In Spain there are no infanto-juvenile psychiatrists qualified with that specialty, children are treated by specialized psychiatrists in adults, and as we know the pathologies are very different.

From several sectors, and the claim comes for years, the creation of a specialty in child and adolescent psychiatry with specific training in children and adolescents is requested, as there is in the rest of the countries of Europe and in most countries Western

Specifically, child-youth psychiatry is the branch of medicine that deals with the population with mental and / or behavioral problems between the ages of 0 and 18 years (in some countries up to 21 years).

There is a platform created by a group of families for the creation of the specialty in child and adolescent psychiatry which fights for that purpose and of course, collect signatures to get it with everyone's help.

It seems unbelievable that Health makes deaf ears to this claim precisely when we can see how in recent years, children's psychiatric illnesses are increasing significantly.

We are increasingly familiar with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Asperger's syndrome, autism, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, anxiety and depression in children.

Proper care of these diseases by a specialist who has received specific training is essential to improve the health of our children. I believe that all parents should join the claim for the creation of the specialty in child and adolescent psychiatry because it is incomprehensible that it does not yet exist.
