The million-dollar campaign, "Let's support mothers so they can breastfeed"

The bell "Let's support mothers so they can breastfeed"born with the aim of collecting a million signatures of membership. That is why it is called"The Million Campaign".

Every day 27,000 children under the age of five die in the world and evidence shows that breastfeeding could have saved thousands of them. Every year 10 million children die and at least one million of them would have been saved if they had received breast milk, both because of the protective factors it has and to avoid the use of contaminated water and reduced milk in the poorest countries.

The "Million Campaign, Let's Support Women so they can Breastfeed"It has one objective, to mobilize public opinion so that the mothers receive the necessary support to be able to breastfeed. A million children, a million signatures. It is worth working for mothers to receive all the support and information possible so that they can breastfeed.

When we talk about breastfeeding we talk about "personal choice", meaning that it is a decision of the mother and a private matter between her and her baby.

However, for a mother to breastfeed there are many aspects that influence. Traditions, myths, social and economic environment, advertising of producing companies, the workload suffered by the mother or the concept of breastfeeding in their environment are factors that determine, in fact, breastfeeding rates.

The reality of the experience of the support groups indicates that in order to achieve successful breastfeeding it is essential to offer mothers true information, real support and a friendly environment. Internet social networks are being one of the basic elements of the work of promoting breastfeeding worldwide.

Despite this, less than half of the children born each year in the world can receive exclusive breastfeeding up to six months. The public health consequences of this circumstance are enormous and serious, both in poor and developed countries.

The "Million Campaign " It was initiated by IBFAN, the International Network of Child Pro Food Groups, which is made up of more than 200 public interest groups worldwide that fight to improve child feeding practices and save the lives of children. IBFAN works for the application of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and Subsequent Resolutions of the World Health Assembly (WHO).
