A pregnant woman lost her son because of a gum infection

Many people doubt the need to go to the dentist in pregnancy, however, it is advisable to go to the beginning of pregnancy, in order to avoid possible infections that can lead to something else.

This something else I am referring to is what happened to a pregnant woman suffering from gingivitis (gum infection) that it ended up being the cause of her baby being born dead.

This case has been published in the medical journal Obstetrics And Gynaecology and he was able to show that the 35-year-old pregnant woman lost her baby because of the bacteria that caused her gum infection. The woman gave birth to her baby in the 39th week of gestation, however he was born dead. Medical tests performed after delivery showed that the same bacteria that the mother had in the gums was found in the blood, lungs and stomach of the fetus. After undergoing preventive treatment, the woman became pregnant again and had a perfectly healthy baby.

Gums are affected during pregnancy

Hormonal changes during pregnancy make the gums thicker and softer and this causes them to remain more exposed to possible damage when brushing teeth and are more prone to possible infections.

That is why it is advisable to go to the dentist to know the pregnancy and have proper oral hygiene. For this, the woman should brush gently and even floss regularly.
