Breastfeeding improves the physical condition in adolescence

Every day we know new beneficial effects of breastfeeding. Researchers at the University of Granada have analyzed a relationship not explored until now between breast milk and muscle fitness confirming that Breastfeeding improves physical condition in adolescence.

Mothers of more than 2,500 adolescents were asked how they had been fed at birth, in the case of breastfeeding, it was asked for how long, and then various physical fitness tests were performed to assess aspects such as aerobic capacity and muscular strength.

The results showed that adolescents who had received breastfeeding had more muscle strength in their legs than those who had received artificial breastfeeding. Also, the longer they had been breastfed, the more muscular strength they had.

The study published in Journal of Nutrition concludes that breastfeeding, whether exclusive or combined with other foods, was associated with a higher performance in the horizontal jump test in boys and girls, regardless of morphological factors such as fat mass, adolescent height or muscle quantity .

This type of research must be interpreted with caution, but it is interesting that a new advantage so far not investigated as a improvement in physical condition in adolescence relate to breastfeeding.
