A Christmas tree with pallets

Christmas and consumerism, decoration and waste have become almost synonymous, but it is also possible to decorate the house and put up a Christmas tree using recycled and recyclable materials. This has been shown to me Nayra Alenda, a very aware mother that I appreciate sharing with the readers of Babies and more this beautiful creation: her Christmas tree with pallets.

She had never put Christmas decorations at home, but this year her 3-year-old daughter Cala was fascinated with the decoration of her cousins, her grandmother, the streets and shops ... so they decided to do something. From the beginning they thought it was done with the things they had on hand and they felt like it do something recycled and not consumerist.

They came up with the tree, which at first was going to be simpler (a vertical wood with five horizontals) and, as the project progressed, it was transformed. They used pallets they had in the field and, to join the boards, the nails they had from other pallets they had burned. Once assembled they sanded and stained with coffee.

The ornaments are made with gum eva with glitter, pineapples and slices of orange and tangerine that had dried last year and the garland is of that wool that already comes with some balls made.

Little Cala participated in all decision-making, from the height of the tree to the place she would occupy at home. He also took care of picking the pineapples from the field, helping to dye it and choosing the templates for the rubber ornaments. And finally helped to hang them.

The idea has not only enchanted me by its way of combining sustainability, reuse and Christmas, but also because it is a project that allows children to participate intensely, have fun and work the value of things. A beautiful example of home creativity this Christmas tree with pallets. Thank you for allowing us to publish it, Nayra.
