The west of France is a place to enjoy festivals and heritage as a family

In Peques and Más we also think that trips are a great experience to live with children. That is why we were in the middle of March 2012 at the presentation of the conference of Festivals and Heritage 2012 promoting western France as a great tourist destination for seniors and also for families with children. And it is that in the area there are important festivals related to music, art, gastronomy or the sea that are enriched with the heritage offered by cities such as Nantes, Saint-Malo, La Rochelle, Angoulême, etc. which also become a luxury stage to be enjoyed by its visitors.

I loved the proposal of Brest and their Tonnerres 2012 held from July 13 to 19. An international festival of the sea that turns 20 and is celebrated every 4 years. The great nautical appointment of Brest summons a million people attracted by the sailboats of three masts, among many other boats, and with the participation of thirty invited countries. Apparently this year there will be a Tintin Reminder in addition to that of the Tonnerres, which means thunder, is a tribute to the expression that Captain Haddock of Tintin used to use "A thousand million thousand thunder!" and reminiscent of the cannon shots that rumbled every day for almost three centuries (at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.) in Brest.

Here is the spectacular video of Brest's appointment. If you are a sea fan I think it is a brilliant show. For a frustrated sailor like me it is an incredibly attractive offer.

Another of the global proposals that were presented was the Pays de la Loire, in which the cities of Le Mans and Nantes. The best known of Le Mans are its 24 hours, which is celebrated on June 16 and 17. For parents passionate about engines, pilots and the smell of gasoline can be a good option to share the experience with more than 250,000 visitors. And if you are not as fond of the engine from June 30 to August, included, you can visit the chimeras nights (la nuit des chimères), a show in which Skerzo helps decorate every summer night the monuments of the Plantagenêt City that are transformed into a gigantic projection screen.

This video that I found on YouTube illustrates very well what can be seen on this night of chimeras:

And the other city full of proposals is Nantes. Its offer runs from June to September and offers in its estuary an exhibition of giant works among which the famous Nantes elephant stands out. Also this year they have expanded the offer with the Carousel of the marine worlds with its 25 meters high. I loved this proposal and if you see the video below it is like being part of the scenery of the works of Julio Verne. Beautiful. In addition, as seen in the video the models can be tested which makes it a destination full of attractions.

Another of the areas that were presented was that of the Atlantic Coast and Cognac CountryIn this space I highlight two areas to visit with children, although there are many more options for young and old. From Angoulême I highlight his comic festival that this year 2012 has already been celebrated although he leaves the city imbued with flavor with painted buildings as if they were a giant and real comic. In 2013 they celebrate the 40th edition that is sure to repeat or improve the visit of 200,000 people, 6,000 professionals and about 800 accredited journalists.

And finally, the image offer that illustrates the article: Futuroscope. It is a theme park that celebrates its 25th anniversary this year 2012. It is a family show that has attractions, unpublished live performances, extraordinary adventures, etc. This year includes a version of The Little Prince Futuroscope with spectacular sensory effects, 3D and mobile platforms (for children over a meter high), for the whole family. There is a combination of offers and prices for children that should be reviewed and studied to adjust the budget.

Here I found a video of Futuroscope with a 4D attraction, with glasses, with mobile sides and lots of fun (in perfect French):

And the presentation ended with transport connections between Spain and France. Here it was said that there are multiple options: trains, boats, departures from Gijón, and especially planes with companies such as Vueling, Ryanair or Air Nostrum that cover those routes.

The links below complement the travel offer of this attractive area of western France. I have been reviewing the pages and they are full of information and they are complemented with content provided by users to extend the experience and to make emotional travel decisions that enrich those usually found in the brochures.

For reading parents and travelers, I also recommend the Traveler's Diary in which our colleagues tell us a lot of possible travel options, many of them also for families.
