WHO issues a report on healthy behaviors of young schoolchildren

The O.M.S (World Health Organization), usually produces a report every four years on the social conditions of health and well-being of young people. This latest study conducted in 40 countries among 200,000 children between 11 and 15 years reflects the following data in Spain.

Refering to obesity, one in three teenagers looks fat. What is most surprising about this percentage is that at 11 years old, 25% of the girls and 24% of the boys say they are fat. This amount increases to 33% in girls and 28% in boys when they are teenagers up to 13 years old, from 15 years old the figure is 45% of children and 25% of boys.

According to the sex practice, with 15 years they have already practiced 21%. In this regard, our children do not seem to be the earliest, leaving our country as fifth worldwide in terms of condom use, with 83% of young people using it. Meanwhile, the use of the morning-after pill extends to 8% of the young women who had sex, the most alarming thing about the use of the morning-after pill is that it is used as another of the contraceptive methods and not as specific .

As regards the alcohol, 6% of 13-year-old children admit having got drunk at least twice. But the figure goes up to more than 33%, if we are in the 15 years, this figure is very alarming because of the early age at which they start drinking alcohol.

Regarding the consumption of tobacco, two out of ten 15-year-old teenagers, confesses to having smoked for the first time at age 13. Something that 24% of girls and 18% of boys have done.

The drug most consumed by teenagers seems to be the cannabis, Spain occupies the second place in terms of consumption, specifically, 16% of 15-year-old students admit having smoked cannabis in the last month and three out of ten claim to have tried it.

This report gives special importance to the relationship that children have with the family and the educational environment, focusing on the relationship they have with their parents, concluding that with 11 years, nine out of ten children tell their mothers their problems, although the closeness with the parents is less.
