Cisco Connect Cloud is a platform to easily manage your Wi-Fi network at home and much more

The wifi technology It is in the vast majority of homes. As Enrique Dans tells us, Spain is the ninth country in the world with more Wi-Fi connections in the home, with more than 57% of the 17.7 million Spanish homes connected via Wi-Fi. And Cisco, one of the leading home technology companies, has just introduced the platform Cisco Connect Cloud to manage the wireless network at home.

It is a simple and intuitive platform to manage the connection in your home and all the devices that are connected to it. So for example, you can manage what devices are connected, what pages can be connected and at what time. It has never been easier to protect the contents to which our children connect.

TO Cisco Connect Cloud It is accessed through the Internet and once identified by a user and a password, the control panel of the home network is displayed. This panel, like the one seen in the image below, allows it to be managed, as we have commented on which devices are active or can be activated, what contents can be accessed, what schedules and more options, such as granting access to guests, know the speed of the network, etc.

Also from the Cisco Connect Cloud you can manage the prioritization of the connection by facilitating that some applications or that some devices have priority over others. For example, gamers have this option in their response to prevent the game from stopping while other users are accessing other content. In addition to the network you can access from any device, And remotely! So if we want to manage the network from work, from the street, the subway or the bus, it is possible to do so.

And that's not the end of the good news because the Cisco Connect Cloud has a feature that will make it very attractive. And is that Cisco has announced the creation of a network of application developers who are interested in working with Cisco and expand the experience of the wireless home network. And, if I have to bet on some profession of the future of our children, I bet on this: develop applications to manage functionalities, devices, technologies and many more applications for the home.

Our Xataka colleagues have listed some of the features in which you can appreciate the potential of the Cisco Connect Cloud and that particularly fascinated me when they taught me any of them:

  • Device monitoring: allows you to control the devices connected to the network, being able to prohibit their connection for periods of time and setting alerts that warn us when a particular device connects to the network. The utility is very clear, for example, to facilitate the access of our children to safe pages and at normal times
  • Netproofer: allows you to establish websites that the devices we choose cannot access, simply and intuitively. Another great application to prevent our children from connecting to unwanted pages
  • IP Camera Viewer: a very interesting application with a very fast response time. It is a surveillance center of our house that makes us look at the home wherever we are and from any device. It is a home alarm center
  • Block the bad stuff: Set the type of content that is allowed on the network. You can block all web pages identified as malicious, pornography and also considered unfit for the family. Another application that complements the previous one and that surely becomes a directory that all parents will want to apply at home
  • Twonky Video and Hipplay: applications to access the multimedia content of our network, both from inside and outside the network - at a friend's house, for example -, and be able to send that content from our smartphone or tablet to a television with Airplay or DLNA

Cisco Connect Cloud It is now available for everyone who has a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi router at home. I hope to be able to prove soon what our Xataka colleagues mention as the new jewel of Cisco, the EA6500 router with 802.11ac wireless technology which promises a data transmission of 1,300Mbps, an even greater range thanks to its six antennas that allow it to be placed in any position, supported on the table or hung on the wall. In addition, the device includes two USB ports to connect our storage devices and allow all content to be available on our network.

We congratulate Cisco because it facilitates that everyone in the home can access a lot of attractive features in a very simple way: games, videos, applications, content, etc. that make our children can use technology in a natural way. Also in Cisco they mentioned the next technology, mainly with the small appliances, which connected to the Internet will also offer a lot of services that we are not yet able to identify although I am sure we will see them soon.
