'The Search' is an educational comic for young people about the persecution of Jews

The rereading of 'The Diary of Anne Frank' It has taken me almost inevitably to this website, in which (among other things) my son has discovered the recreation of the annex where Ana spent two years of his life.

The book is not for young children but a rather old edition caught their attention and they were so curious that they finally managed to 'get me' part of the story of a girl who became a teenager locked up to not be captured, and sharing her life with Seven other people. On the site I mentioned, I found the reference to a comic called 'The Search' (which is available in Dutch, English and German). It is accompanied by teaching material and is intended for girls and boys aged 13 to 16.

Tell the shocking story of the Hecht, a Jewish family. The father, mother and daughter Esther live in Germany when Adolf Hitler comes to power in 1933. The discrimination of Jews increases. After the "Night of the broken glass", which occurred in 1938, the Hecht took refuge in Holland (as did the Frank)

The combination of text and drawings it makes the history of the persecution of the Jews for today's youth very accessible. The personal nature of the story makes it easier for students to identify with the dilemmas and dilemmas that people faced then.

Eric Heuvel uses the "clear line" technique, which makes events appeal to the imagination. At the same time, students learn numerous historical facts about the Holocaust and World War II.

The Nazi holocaust has not been the only barbarism committed by the human being, they were not the only ones who have wanted the extermination of their fellow men. And although I think it is unnecessary to expose children and adolescents to scenes of violence (for example an execution), I don't like the idea that they grow up ignoring the mistakes made in the past, which (unfortunately) continue to repeat themselves.

It is a comic to read and learn, to work in class or to share with friends. It is a work that has received very good reviews, including one from the New York Times, and has been published in more than ten countries.

It is purchased directly at the Anne Frank House store.
