The Spanish Federation of Large Families has conducted a macro-survey of 6500 large families, with the support of the Madrid Vivo Foundation. One of the results obtained indicates that three out of four arrive just at the end of the month, with the aggravating fact that 30% must use savings or loans to meet household expenses.
Let's not forget that the income level of large families coincides with the population as a whole, only that you have to distribute it among more members. In this group there are two extremes that bring together small percentages: only in six percent of households with five or more members, there is a monthly income of 6000 euros, and on the other hand 5% must live with less than 900 euros a month. More than half of these families (63 percent) receives less than 3000 euros every month. What does a large family spend their money on? Compared to the rest of the homes, most of the income goes to food, pharmacy and education. Housing and leisure remain in the background, and of course their ability to save is lower compared to the rest of the population.
The size of large families is 5.4 members on average. 67% of large families have three children, another 26% have four or more children. In both 90% of these homes both parents live together and in 5% some of the grandparents live together
We have in Spain a collective of 7000 million people belonging to large families. In one third of these households the two parents work, mostly as private sector wage earners.
We were just talking the other day of the First National Exhibition of Large Families "Fundación Madrid Vivo", which was born to support these homes in the access to certain products and services.
The truth is that it clashes that in a country (ours) in which births continue to decline, large families have so many difficulties.
