Do you want to name the panda that has just been born at the Madrid Zoo?

The Madrid Zoo has already started voting to choose the name of the giant panda bear that was born on August 30 at the Zoo's facilities. The name will be chosen from among five official proposals that have been created and that include a tribute to Madrid, the birthplace of the panda puppy, and the Chinese origin of his parents, Hua Zui Ba and Bing Xing. Below are the proposed names.

The panda has proven to be a male overflowing with health and with a great appetite that has been gaining weight gradually and in its 38 days of life has gone from 210 grams that weighed at birth to the current 2.24 kilograms. In addition, and as you can see in the images, already sports its spots and the characteristic appearance of a panda although we will have to wait a few months for its presentation in society and observe how it takes its first steps.

  • DE MAO (Madrid cat), in reference to the Madrid of traditional parents, city of "adoption" of Hua Zui Ba and Bing Xing.
  • OF FU (fortune or gift from Madrid), the birth of the fourth panda bear at Zoo Aquarium in Madrid is a cause for celebration in the breeding and reproduction program of the giant panda and is a great gift for Madrid.
  • XI FU (fortune or gift from Spain), refers to the only family of giant panda bears that can be visited in Spain, a symbol of this severely threatened species.
  • DE BAO (baby or small in Madrid) and that is that the panda puppy has become the most popular and expected small of 2013 by the many visitors to the Zoo Aquarium in Madrid.
  • XING BAO (star treasure), in reference to the name of its parent Bing Xing (ice star) that comes to mean the treasure of his father.

The date scheduled to close the decision is the 5th December 2013. For now the voting has started strongly and all names call attention to children who vote with their parents. Yes it seems that at the moment two names succeed: Xing Bao and Xi Fu. I like the latter because it reminds me of Kung Fu Panda and just for that reason it gives me a smile.

Remember that through the screen installed outside the panda bear pagoda at Zoo Aquarium in Madrid, all visitors can now see unpublished images of the mother and her young in the interior bedroom where they enjoy greater privacy. Thus it is possible to see how the panda is breastfed in his mother's lap, or how the little one is next to his mother while she eats bamboo or, the one seen in the picture, how the mother protects the child with her legs while both remain asleep.

We like that the Zoo gives us information on how the puppy evolves and although we miss him providing us with live images, as does the San Diego Zoo, we are very happy to know that the panda puppy is progressing. And it is that the animal, totally achuchable as you can see in the images, grows day by day under the constant attention of its mother Hua Zui Ba.
