How to play chess in the sand on the beach

This cube is called Beach chessI have seen it in Microsiervos and it has the sides stamped to draw the chess pieces in the sand. Each cube allows to make the white and black, some showing only the profile and others completing the entire shape of the piece in the sand. It is not to play fast because it requires reflection and patience, first the floor is smoothed and then the cube is turned to choose the desired shape. Yes already chess demands abstraction to play with these figures still demands more effort so as not to get involved between the colors of the pieces, the colorless escapes and also play carefully in the sand, erasing and pressing the bucket again to obtain the following figure.

The figures that appear on the faces of the cubes are: pawn, tower, horse, bishop, King Y Queen. Six faces, six pieces and hours of fun in the sand of the beach for 25 dollars (about 18 euros). It is a project of Timothy Callahan and a campaign of crowdfunding in Indiegogo which does not seem to have started very successfully. In my opinion it is difficult to draw the board in the sand although surely the project has great possibilities for entertainment and learning.

The author of the project is Timothy Callahan, from Brooklyn in New York, 28 years old and who hopes that his proposal of cubes, which can be printed with a 3D printer, will serve teach chess to kids and to practice it on the beach.

What most me like of the project is the simplicity of the proposal, carrying a chess in a plastic cube is very interesting, at least, the difficulty of drawing the board and the high price for some plastic dice. In any case, we wish him the best of luck and hope that it serves to develop other proposals that improve or enrich Timothy's idea.
