Vaporizer or humidifier?

Now that the first cold starts, we close the windows and turn on the heating by lowering the humidity level of the house. The appropriate level is between 45 and 65%, below, the throat is dried, the nose is covered and respiratory problems and allergies are aggravated. Therefore, pediatricians advise using a device that brings moisture to the airways and the environment to counteract dryness. But, Is the vaporizer or humidifier better?

Before investing, you have to know what function each one plays beyond the beautiful designs. The function of the two is to produce moisture to help the secretions that children have when they are cold flowed, accelerating their recovery. The main difference is that the humidifier works cold while the vaporizer produces hot steam. Humidifiers need distilled water and must be kept very clean, because, by not heating the water, bacteria or fungi can proliferate more easily. But they have the advantage that they are safer because they do not produce hot steam and therefore, there are no risks of burns.

The vaporizers can work with tap water, because when heated (to about 100 °), possible microorganisms are eliminated. They produce hot steam, so you have to be very careful in handling these devices with children around. Always put it on the floor, away from the reach of children and recommend using it before going to sleep to avoid being on overnight and can cause an accident. You have to clean the resistance where tartar builds up once a month. They also allow balms with essences to be placed. Another advantage of the vapo is economic, since, when producing heat, the heating bill will benefit.

The latest are ultrasonic humidifiers such as the Chicco Balloon, which are super quiet and produce micro mist particles that remain suspended in the air for longer. The steam flow can be regulated and when cold, they can also be used in summer. The disadvantage is that they are more expensive.
