Eating a lot of fast food and few fruits could affect women's fertility

There are different factors that can influence women's fertility. Some are due to biological issues, while others are caused by the lifestyle, such as the food we have before trying to conceive.

A study confirms this last point, since it was found that eating fast food often could affect women's fertility.

Published in the journal "Human Reproduction", the study He analyzed the relationship between eating a lot of fast food and few fruits, with the level of fertility that women had, based on the time it took them to get pregnant.

A series of questions about their diet were asked of more than 5,500 women in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Ireland. All were in their first pregnancy and these questionnaires were made by midwives during their first prenatal check-ups.

They found two main results:

  • Compared to women who consumed fruits three or more times a day a month before conception, women who ate fruit less than one to three times a month, took half a month longer to get pregnant.

  • Compared to women who never or rarely consumed fast food, women who ate fast food four or more times a week took a month longer to get pregnant.

When the researchers analyzed the impact of their diet related to infertility of the women who participated in the study, they found that in women who consumed the least amount of fruit, the risk of infertility increased from 8% to 12%. Instead, in those who ate fast food four or more times a week, the risk of infertility increased from 8% to 16%.

This study reminds us and highlights the importance of a balanced and healthy diet from the months before pregnancy, since previous studies have shown that suffering from obesity can also make it difficult to get pregnant.

So let's keep our eating options in the healthy area, well In addition to staying healthy avoiding food that is not good for our body, we prevent it from affecting our fertility.
