The first shower after delivery

Few things fancy so much after giving birth like taking a good shower (besides being with our baby, of course).

The immersion bath is not recommended (neither in the bathtub nor in the pool) as it could cause an infection, so it is best to take a shower. The water should not be too hot since if we have a somewhat low voltage we run the risk of fading. The best is a relaxing shower with warm water.

The nurses will tell us when we can take a shower, once the effect of epidural anesthesia is gone, if they have been applied, to avoid accidents.

The most advisable thing is that when showering the first time the woman is accompanied at all times by someone who watches over her in case she might need something, get tired, dizzy or not at all well.

Surely when we stand up we will notice an abundant loss of blood that comes from the uterus. This is absolutely normal.

We can wash the hair with shampoo and the body with gel but it is not convenient to wash with sponges, but simply by hand. Nor does the gel pass through the genital area (glycerin soap only), but only let the water run without placing the direct jet.

Keep in mind that the vagina and cervix are even more open than normal and therefore more exposed to germs entering the body and causing infections.

Once you have finished it is very important to dry the genital area well with a soft towel without rubbing in the direction of the vagina towards the anus, never the other way around. Although it is not necessary, you can remove the remaining moisture from the area with the cold air of a hair dryer.

Your first shower after delivery It will be very comforting. In addition to hygiene, it will help you relax and at the same time charge you with energy to return to the care of your baby.
