Results of the survey "At what age have you had your first child?"

Days ago we invited you to participate in the survey. At what age have you had your first child? to get first-hand information about the age at which women become mothers. Good, we have the results of the survey.

First of all, we want to thank your participation because we have obtained more than a thousand responses. In this way, we have a fairly representative sample to make a reliable analysis of the results.

Go for it.

Before 20 years 7% (69 replies)
Between the ages of 20 and 25 17% (165 replies)
Between 26 and 30 years old 34% (334 replies)
Between 31 and 35 years old 35% (345 replies)
Between 36 and 40 years old 8% (75 replies)
After 40 years 1% (8 answers)

The vast majority of respondents, 78 percent, have had their first child after age 25. 35 percent have been mother for the first time between 31 and 35 years and almost the same percentage, 34 percent, have been mother for the first time between 26 and 30 years.

An intermediate range is between 20 and 25 years with 17 percent of the responses, while before 20 years is almost the same percentage as women who have become mothers between 36 and 40 years. This last data has caught my attention because I expected a higher result considering that the age of motherhood is being delayed and that 30% of Spanish women have their first child after 35 years.

Finally, the percentage of women who have had their first child after 40 years is negligible. The following may have arrived after that age, but remember that we talk about the first child.

A point to keep in mind is that not only Spanish mothers have participated in our survey, but also mothers of other nationalities, mainly Latin American, from countries where it is usual to have children at earlier ages.

In conclusion, based on the data obtained in our survey At what age have you had your first child?, we can say that the average age range at which women become mothers is between 26 and 35 years old.
